Lisa Metsch, Ph.D., Enhances HIV/AIDS Care Through Research

When Lisa Metsch, a newly minted Ph.D. in sociology, joined the Miller School faculty in 1994 to evaluate HIV prevention strategies for drug users, she noticed something both troubling and transformative: The study groups assembled to test HIV interventions included people at risk for what was then a fatal disease as well as people already living with the virus.

Marc Buoniconti, president of The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, was recognized as the 2011 Individual of Merit at the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce Health Care Heroes Awards at Jungle Island on May 12. Dr. G. Patricia Cantwell won the Health Care Professional Award.

Six UM Investigators Receive Grants for Promising HIV/AIDS Research

The University of Miami Developmental Center for AIDS Research (D-CFAR), which provides seed money to stimulate new research and new collaborations in HIV/AIDS, has awarded grants to six investigators for the purpose of developing pilot data for NIH grant proposals.
